1 Corinthians 5:6
King James Version
6 Your glorying is not good.
Know ye not that a little leaven
leaveneth the whole lump?
I can't ignore something I learned today.
SPIRIT led me to TWO types of leaven.
One, concerning the WORD of GOD.
Which we wrote about earlier in our "The LEAVEN parable".
And another, a different kind of "leaven" JESUS spoke of.
These verses clarify.
First, from the Old Testament:
Exodus 12:15
King James Version
15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread;
even the first day ye shall put away leaven
out of your houses:
for whosoever eateth leavened bread
from the first day until the seventh day,
that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
Exodus 12:19-20
King James Version
19 Seven days shall there be
no leaven found in your houses:
for whosoever eateth that which is leavened,
even that soul shall be cut off
from the congregation of Israel,
whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened;
in all your habitations shall ye eat
unleavened bread.
Exodus 13:3
King James Version
3 And Moses said unto the people,
Remember this day,
in which ye came out from Egypt,
out of the house of bondage;
for by strength of hand the Lord
brought you out from this place:
there shall no leavened bread be eaten.
Exodus 13:4-5
King James Version
4 This day came ye out in the month Abib.
5 And it shall be when the Lord
shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites,
and the Hittites, and the Amorites,
and the Hivites, and the Jebusites,
which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee,
a land flowing with milk and honey,
that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
Exodus 13:6-7
King James Version
6 Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread,
and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord.
7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days;
and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee,
neither shall there be leaven seen with thee
in all thy quarters.
Exodus 13:8
King James Version
8 And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying,
This is done because of that which the Lord did
unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.
Exodus 34:25
King James Version
25 Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice
with leaven; neither
shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover
be left unto the morning.
Leviticus 2:11
King James Version
11 No meat offering,
which ye shall bring unto the Lord,
shall be made with leaven:
for ye shall burn no leaven,
nor any honey,
in any offering of the Lord made by fire.
Leviticus 6:14-17
King James Version
14 And this is the law of the meat offering:
the sons of Aaron shall offer it before the Lord,
before the altar.
15 And he shall take of it his handful,
of the flour of the meat offering,
and of the oil thereof,
and all the frankincense
which is upon the meat offering,
and shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour,
even the memorial of it, unto the Lord.
16 And the remainder thereof
shall Aaron and his sons eat:
with unleavened bread shall it be eaten
in the holy place;
in the court of the tabernacle of the congregation
they shall eat it.
17 It shall not be baken with leaven.
I have given it unto them for their portion
of my offerings made by fire;
it is most holy, as is the sin offering,
and as the trespass offering.
Leviticus 10:12
King James Version
12 And Moses spake unto Aaron,
and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar,
his sons that were left,
Take the meat offering that remaineth
of the offerings of the Lord made by fire,
and eat it without leaven beside the altar:
for it is most holy:
Leviticus 23:16-18
King James Version
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath
shall ye number fifty days;
and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the Lord.
17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations
two wave loaves of two tenth deals;
they shall be of fine flour;
they shall be baken with leaven;
they are the firstfruits unto the Lord.
18 And ye shall offer with the bread
seven lambs without blemish of the first year,
and one young bullock, and two rams:
they shall be for a burnt offering unto the Lord,
with their meat offering, and their drink offerings,
even an offering made by fire,
of sweet savour unto the Lord.
Second, from the New Testament:
Mark 8:14-16
King James Version
14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread,
neither had they in the ship with them
more than one loaf.
15 And he charged them, saying,
Take heed,
beware of the leaven of the Pharisees,
and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying,
It is because we have no bread.
Matthew 16:8-12
King James Version
8 Which when Jesus perceived,
he said unto them,
O ye of little faith,
why reason ye among yourselves,
because ye have brought no bread?
9 Do ye not yet understand,
neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand,
and how many baskets ye took up?
10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand,
and how many baskets ye took up?
11 How is it that ye do not understand
that I spake it not to you concerning bread,
that ye should beware of the leaven
of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12 Then understood they how that he bade them
not beware of the leaven of bread,
but of the doctrine of the Pharisees
and of the Sadducees.
Luke 12:1
King James Version
12 In the mean time,
when there were gathered together
an innumerable multitude of people,
insomuch that they trode one upon another,
he began to say unto his disciples first of all,
Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees,
which is hypocrisy.
1 Corinthians 5:6-8
King James Version
6 Your glorying is not good.
Know ye not that a little leaven
leaveneth the whole lump?
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven,
that ye may be a new lump,
as ye are unleavened.
For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast,
not with old leaven,
neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness;
but with the unleavened bread
of sincerity and truth.
